Halldór Dungal

Artist

Born in Reykjavík 29. 5. 1957. Finished his study at The National Arts and Craftschool in 1978 and allthough dedicated to his art he has awoided the public lights and his private exhibitions have never been advertized. Sometimes he disappers from the Reykjavik's scene to dwell by the cost of Southern Spain and reappeares 1 - 5 years later. Somewhat of a hermit he claimes to be a Christian Boheimian Buddist. His only public appearences have been through interviews in Morgunbladid 24th January 1987 and 7th June 1997. His dual residence in these two very different european countries has matured in an extreamly international approach to landscape painting. Formerly a lyrical abstract painter with obscure figures and landscapes, he has now come closer to his nordic roots in the luminous Mediterranian sun and the mythical Troll and Elfwomen stand clear and lifelike, silently talking to us from the mountains. In the presence of these timeless works of art we ask ourselves why we have never seen them before as they have obviously allways been there; waiting to be seen.
